In July this year, 30 Scouts, Explorers and Leaders from 6th Bangor Scout Group set
off to explore Canada following two years of planning and fundraising.  The destination was
Oshawa, a town an hour north of Toronto and a log cabin located in Camp Samac.

Camp Samac has over 150 acres of woodland and parkland as well as a lake and river
which provided the setting for several canoe and fishing adventures.  We shared the site with deer, wild turkeys, squirrels, chipmunks, raccoons, a fox and blue jays.  We had to share the lake with the trout, the massive dragonflies and the resident beaver.  Also on site was a shooting range where Scouts were able to gain pelletry awards for accuracy and consistency and a swimming pool which was well used as the temperature was 28‐32 degrees every day.  We also had several sporting events which were shortened due to the intense heat or the hungry insect population!

We travelled around the Toronto area, visiting Niagara Falls and going on the Maid of the Mist, The CN Tower to stand on the glass floor, Fort York for a live cannon demonstration, the huge Toronto Zoo, Canada’s Wonderland and Wild Water Kingdom.  The Eaton Centre with over 200 shops was also a hit, and we dined in the Hard Rock Café.  We also got tickets for the Toronto Blue Jays vs The New York Yankees – the Blue Jays won 16‐7 and our chanting and dancing got us on the big screen!

Overall it was a fantastic trip which will be remembered for years to come!
